RDBK Coffee Showroom: Yaksu

Alongside the main road between Yaksu and Dongguk University stations, up a small hill, is a set of terracotta brick red stairs. If you follow the stairs to the top, you will be met with RDBK Coffee Showroom.

This café is just one a few branches around the city and the café sells coffee specially roasted in Australia. The RDBK in RDBK Coffee is short for Redbrick Coffee. Of all the cafe's branches, this one matched the name the most with lovely terracotta steps and a brick facade.

Unlike it’s exterior, the interior of the café was relatively simple and acted as a canvas. There were painted white walls and grey ceiling and flooring. The ceiling was exposed concrete with beams that added interesting shape.

The main counter was also grey, but behind it was a large floor to ceiling chestnut coloured wooden cabinet. This displayed the specially roasted coffee beans and dishware that was for sale. This same wood was also used in some of the other display cabinetry in other parts of the space. A lighter wood was also used in the chairs, displays and some of the other tables.

However there were also bright pops of colour seen throughout the space. Chairs in oranges and blues added interest to the eye. These colours were also carried through to some of the modern style posters that were sporadically placed throughout the space. There were also plants in the space which added green to the colour scheme.

The café had a lot of seating in it and there was a wide variety to the type of seating. Majority of the seating were round white tables with space for groups of twos or threes, all at a good height for working. But there were also some bar seats around the ordering counter, a large long table good for groups, and even diner style wooden booths in the far corner of the café. There were also seats outside along the front terrace of the café, great to enjoy when the weather is nice.

The music was relaxing and the overall feel of the space was quite neutral so it wasn’t too hard on the eye. So while the space was fine for socialising, with the interior look and feel, plus the amount of seating, it was a perfect café for working and concentrating.

As for the menu, I got the milk tea and a carrot cake. The milk tea was well brewed. It had a lovely creamy and velvety texture, but with a nice tea flavour to it. The carrot cake, thought it didn’t look like much, was also nice. It had a moist and fruity cake, with a thick layer of cream cheese that was neither too sweet or too savory.

RDBK Coffee Showroom is a simple yet neural space that has a great atmosphere for concentrating. In dead beat terms, this is a perfect café if you need to get some work done. Not only does it offer tasty drinks and desert, with good tables for working, it has the perfect recipe for the times when you just have to knuckle down and get things done.
