Cafe Lightness: Yeonnam-dong

Walking up past the main area of Hongdae's quieter cousin, Yeonnamdong, you will find Cafe Lightness. For me, one of the main pulling points of this cafe was the translucent cube seating that I had seen online. So naturally, I was disappointed to see that they had been replaced with a huge communal black table in the main seating area of the café. However this makes the cafe more appropriate as a workspace, which fits their tag line, coffee studio for creators, much better.

Overall, the art gallery-esque style interior and calming smooth jazz (coming from turn tables with a really beautiful speaker set up), fit this idea of being a workspace really nicely.

Yet fret not insta people, the perfectly symmetrical and beautifully lit main counter still allows you to get your iconic insta shot.

For the menu, I had a strawberry yogurt, my friend had an iced americano and we shared a matcha croissant. The drinks were tasty, but the croissant was the real standout here. The croissant was crispy outside but buttery and soft inside. The topping was like a matcha white chocolate, but it wasn’t overly sweet and had a rich matcha flavour without being too bitter.

So in dead beat terms, this is a nice place to get some work done with a tasty treat, all the while getting that Instagram shot. Two birds, one stone.
