Ouvert Seoul: Yaksu-dong

In Yaksu-dong, a residential and newly up and coming hot spot for cafes and restaurants, you can find the recently opened Ouvert Seoul. It’s not hard to miss the cafe's façade, with floor to ceiling glass windows, with the café’s name plastered over the glass in beautiful font.

The medium sized cafe has a large and open feel, down to the two walls of windows and a high ceiling. With these walls of glass, and not to mention another window at the rear of the café, a lot of light could enter the café. However at the time of going, it was dusk and the air quality was bad, so with smoggy skies, the view wasn’t as good as it could have been. However on a clear day, I imagine it would look lovely, especially with a nice row of trees out the front of the cafe.

The café’s interior took it’s design ques from industrial design and modern vintage, which is trending at the moment. However this along with the windows added a new aspect to this kind of design.

The counter was at the back of the café, with blocks of colour covering the front of the counter. To the right of it was a glass block wall, a design that is having a comeback at the moment. The floor was a dark grained finish, and the walls and celling were all white. The seating was mainly black and white with silver finishes.

The seating had two main types. Regular tables for two to three, as well a long table that went along the side windowed wall. All these were a great height for working. There was also a much lower set of table and chairs, which was where my friend and I sat. The chairs were interesting to sit it since the back swung as you moved, but they also looked beautiful so they were an added design element to the space. Overall, the cafe was the perfect place for working as well as socialising.

It should be mentioned, since my friend and I had been there for quite a while it had gotten dark outside. Due to this, the white lighting of the cafe became a little harsh, but was none the less great for taking photos. So I think this space would be much more beautiful in the day time with the sunlight gleaming through.

Despite this, the cafe had a nice atmosphere. The music suited the vibe of the café and was played on vinyl which doubled as a decorative aspect. However, music was slightly loud so it was hard to hear my friend talk at a regular talking volume.

In terms of what we ordered, we got an americano, milk tea and a croissant with banana and cream. We also got an egg tart for free, which was great. The milk tea had a very strong tea flavour and was more on the savoury side, but was still very nice. My friend said that the ammericano was good and was on the bitter side which was his preference.

As for the deserts, they surprised me. The croissant was crispy and there was not only vanilla ice cream, there was also cream topped with a sprinkle of cocoa. As a fan of sauce for anything, this was heaven. And the banana was a nice addition to cut through the heaviness of the cream and ice cream. The egg tart was also delicious. It had a crispy pastry crust with a perfectly sweetened filling that you could definitely taste egg, as well as a smooth texture.

This space was a surprise of the senses. In dead beat terms this is a beautiful space that also came through with delicious goods. This café is a nice space for working, socialising and taking insta pics. But don't be fooled bu appearances, it’s also a great place for a tasty desert.
