Paus Di Mension: Hongdae

Away from the hustle and bustle of Hongdae’s main streets and closer to Hapejong, is a brown brick building with a deck painted in black. Plastered onto the front window is Paus Di Mension in large letters.

Paus Di Mension is a medium sized café with walls and ceiling painted in white, with a grey carpet floor. Black and silver were the two main colours seen throughout the space. The ordering counter was black and a lot of the chair and tables were black or white. Many of the chair and table legs were silver.

Splashes of bright colours, like blue and red, were seen in wall hangings and posters, and green was also present coming from plants placed throughout the space. Much of the furniture was of trendy mid-century style and the posters were nods to Bauhaus style. This was where much of the decorative aspects of the space came from.

There was a variety of different seating throughout the space. There was a sofa and coffee table, a long conference type table and a lot of tables for two and threes. There was also outdoor seating on a small decked area at the front of the café. The various seating types made the space versatile in terms of purpose and therefore was suitable for working, socialising and even business meetings.

However, though overall decorated well with beautiful pieces on their own, the space did feel a little too crowded. In every space possible there was either furniture or posters. Even the seats were arranged to allow for the most people possible. Although it wasn't too much as to feel tacky, I did feel that Hongdae can take a good thing and make it a little too much.

At the same time, being in Hongdae, this café was the perfect space for a variety of different photo opps. There was also a DJ playing when my friend and I went and this added a nice atmosphere to the space.

In terms of drinks, my friend got an iced americano, while I got a milk tea. While the milk tea was tasty, it was very sweet and didn’t really have a tea flavour. Rather it was more like a sweet milk drink. As for the coffee, my friend said it was well rounded and had an average taste.

Paus Di Mension is a nice café that brings chic mid century modern aesthetic to the youth centre of Hongdae. In Dead Beat terms the cafe is a nice open space that hits all the marks for the current trends in café culture but in a Hongdae way. It’s a versatile space that can be used for a variety of purposes and is a paradise for taking insta pics.
