Pokè is another café that I visited on my trip to Songdo, a new city just west of Seoul. This is a café that is right in the middle of Songdo, just outside the large Triple Street shopping complex.
Though the café is quite small, it’s been designed very well. It has a minimalist interior that was well executed. It’s colour scheme is white with hints of orange. Almost all of it’s surfaces were white, except for the floor which was a light coloured gravel inlay and the chair legs which were a shiny silver.
Though all of it’s surfaces where white, simple design aspects added interest to the space. One wall had wainscoting paneling that went half way up the wall which added a nice texture to the wall, and also allowed a small partition in the front of the café. While on the other side, there were arches set into the wall that acted as shelves, as well as a mirror in the middle. This was a great spot for Instagram pictures.
Alongside white, the café also had small accents that were carried throughout the café. Small pops of orange from the decor and the straws used among the overall white interior added a nice relief from the white. While the use of arches was also prominent in the space.
Moreover, in terms of decoration, it was decorated well in the sense that it had ornaments in places that were only needed. Meaning the cafe was a true testament to minimalist style.
The space itself was bright, and while it did seem more like a socialising café, this and the height of the tables were the perfect for working. Moreover, regardless of where you stood, every picture came out nicely, meaning it’s incredibly instagrammable.
As for beverages, I had an iced milk tea and my friend had an iced americano. The milk tea was well flavoured and had a nice silky texture. My friend said that the iced americano was ok.
Minimalism is a hard concept to pull off, but this café does it well. In dead beat terms, this is a nice café to visit if you’re in the area. It’s a nice place to take insta pics as well as enjoy some nice beverages.
