President Coffee: Gyeongridan

If you get off at Noksapyong station, walk in the direction of Gyeongridan but just keep going straight, there’s a coffee shop right at the end of the side walk. And that coffee shop is President Coffee.

This is one of two branches, and yep, it’s another café that I’ve visited often and for a long time. The first thing you’re eyes are drawn to when you see the café is the façade. The façade is made of two large windows, with large glass doors in the middle. These two windows are covered in red and white phrases repeated again and again.

Entering the café, there’s a walk way in the middle of café and at the back it leads you to the ordering counter. The floors are green tiles, while the walls are grey, however there are pops of primary colours around the place; a yellow cabinet, red chairs or signage. This is also mixed in with wooden tables. All of the furniture was mis matched, but rather than look messy, it adds interest.

The interior had a very masculine feel, with a lot of the furniture, especially it’s decorative pieces, being of a mix of military and mid century style. In a strange way reminds me and my friends a little of the game Fallout, in the nicest way possible.

Every time I visit the café, the space changes. They are constantly rearranging the furniture. However, despite this, it’s always a great space for working, with working tables and power sockets labelled around the café. They usually have really great music playing, which adds a nice ambience to the place for working.

However it is also a nice space to socialise. The main reason I say this is because they have a number of couches around the space. The couches are so soft and easy to sink into; honestly they’re the most comfortable couches I’ve ever sat on in my life. So for socialising, or if you don’t need a table to work, this is the best place to sit. There is also another couch (and some other seats) out the front of the café which is lovely to sit on in the summer time.

Coming to the drinks, they come in only one size, however for both takeaway and have in, the serving size is larger than usual, which is suprising because the cafe's pricing is very fair.

The most recent time I visited the café, I got take out (which was all you could do in times of social distancing). I got the Chai Tea Latte and my friend got an ammericano.

In the past, I’ve tried the Hoji milk tea (roasted tea), which is nice if you like a more robust tea flavour. However my go to drink is the Chai Tea Latte. It’s delicious both hot and cold and has the nice amount of sweetness, mixed in with strong, but not overpowering, spice flavours.

My friend said the coffee has a nice balanced flavour, which means that it’s good for all palettes. However he said that he doesn’t like the iced version of the drink. All iced drinks come with small ice cubes, so this can make the coffee too watered down for some. So this is something to keep in mind. But for me, with the chai tea latte, it doesn’t make much of a difference.

If you’ve got some work do to but also care about aesthetics and vibe, President Coffee is the place to go. In dead beat terms this is a great space for comfortable and cool working. With unique interior and well sized drinks, this café ticks all the boxes. It’s also a nice place to sit and chat, and has the best couch in town.
