Segumjung: Hapjeong

Segumjung (새검정) in English means new black. And it’s a title that fits a café in the hip part of Hapjeong that is a popular spot for working style cafes.

Segumjung is an open plan café with a lot of tables and chairs in the space. The café’s interior is relatively simple in design terms. It’s walls are white and grey, it has a concrete ceiling and floor, and has a few indoor plants, a large rug and a poster here and there.

But this is not to say it’s boring. All of it's chairs were of different makes and colours which added diversity and colour to the café. There was also a DJ both setup that added a nice focal point to the café. The café had two walls of windows, which meant that it was well lit by natural light.

While there were places to socialise, the café was a predominately working café. The uniform tables, at a nice height for working, made it great for those with laptops. Moreover the smooth rnb style music and good levels of natural and artificial lighting added to a calming atmosphere.

I came with a friend and I got an iced milk tea, while my friend got an iced americano. The milk tea had a nice hearty tea flavour and good texture. My friend said the coffee also had a good flavour and was brewed well.

Segumjung ticked all the boxes. In dead beat terms, this is a great place for working. It had good quality beverages with a light and open space. This combined with calm yet productive ambience, makes it optimal for getting your work done.
