Vision Stroll: Mangwon

Not far from the Mangwon market is where you can find Vision Stroll. The relatively new café is one of the most popular these days. I went with a friend and we had to wait fifteen minutes to get into the small café.

Overall, the café’s interior had a very masculine feel (which my male friend heartily agreed with) yet, majority of the patrons were women. This, I suspect, was down to the cafes desert which I will talk about later. The café’s interior felt very country and western, but not in a tacky way. A lot of the features were inspired by Native American and Aztec cultures. For example, a huge wall tapestry, pottery, and even a huge deer skull pointed to this. There was also heavy use of vintage style prints with an emphasis on horses, as well as good use of natural wood with the tables and chairs, which added a rustic authentic feel. The music was also rockabilly and old school country and western music, which all attributed to this vibe.

The seating was mostly wooden tables for two or three people. But you could also sit along one of the front counters, as well in the front window of the café, which had a long bar table. While the tables were appropriate for working, the café has more of a socialising atmosphere. Plus, since there was always waiting, there was always some pressure to not overstay your welcome.

The drinks were admittedly so so. I got a hot chocolate and my friend got an iced Americano. My friend said that the iced americano was not horrendous but was quite sour. For me the hot chocolate was not sweet or milky and for my taste was too bitter. They also topped off the hot chocolate with real cacao beans, which were visually nice, but if you ate them were too bitter.

However, we also shared what they called a ‘butter pudding’. This was not a pudding at all but actually a chocolate coated and filled croissant with vanilla ice cream. The croissant was so delicious. Even my friend who is not a sweets person really enjoyed it. It wasn’t too rich and the ice cream helped cut through the chocolate. While delicious, this also seemed to be the drawing point for much of the patrons. This is in line with the donut/croissant/waffle trend that is popular among cafes these days.

In dead beat terms Vision Stroll is a beautifully and uniquely decorated café. The “butter puddings” are absolutely delicious and look great on Instagram, but if you’re in need of a good coffee look elsewhere.
